The Dragonfly Inspiration

I love learning how steps are created, and how they evolved before making it into the official vocabulary. After spending some time with SuperBeth of Tamarind last year, I had a greater appreciation for this “zippy” fun step which also happens to be a Tamarind Dialect step!

The original footwork of this move was created by SuperBeth, after being inspired by a Gypsy Caravan step she saw at Tribal Fest. The footwork went through a few evolutions before settling on the final version that made it to Volume 9:Anatomy of a Step. The version we all know and love!

The arms were inspired by Devyani’s WaterPot. You can see this in the shape of the arms as they are overhead.

And the name? Well, that was thanks to Jennifer Nolan, the original Director of Tamarind. She LOVED the “zippy” fade of this move, and that's how it got its name… The DragonFly!

This step is considered a Dialect step and is found on Volume 9. This fresh new class also includes the circling option!! This is a super fun variation that never made it onto Volume 9. What a treat that we get to have it here on FCBDU!

Take the class!
